Tadami Line.

The Tadami Line (Tadami Sen) is,From Aizuwakamatsu Station in Aizuwakamatsu City, Fukushima Prefecture to Koide Station in Uonuma City, Niigata PrefectureThe East Japan Railway (JR East) railroad line (regional transportation line) that connects the East Japan Railway Company (JR East) to the

It connects the Aizu region of Fukushima Prefecture with the Uonuma region of the Chuetsu region of Niigata Prefecture. The area along the route from Oku-Aizu to the Niigata Prefecture side is a heavy snowfall area, and the parallel Route 252 near Rokujuri-Koshi, which straddles the Fukushima-Niigata border, is closed to traffic in winter,During that time, the Tadami Line was the only means of transportation between the Tadami area of Fukushima Prefecture and the Uonuma area of Niigata Prefecture. The line was designated as a "quiet line" under the Japanese National Railways Restructuring Act. Therefore, the Tadami Line was exempted from being abolished as a specified regional transportation line under the Japanese National Railways Restructuring Act, even though it was a quiet line with management difficulties, such as being designated as a loss-making 83 line during its construction. The Tadami Line is also suspended depending on the amount of snowfall in winter. In particular, snowfall is heavy on the Niigata Prefecture side of the line, and snowplows are often dispatched. Some stations have 3-meter bars on the side of the tracks to indicate the amount of snowfall.
From Aizu-Wakamatsu Station to Aizu-Sakahe Station, the train makes a large U-shaped detour in the southern part of the Aizu Basin, and beyond that, it enters the mountainous area and travels deep upstream along the Tadami River valley, which has many bends and small dams. From the Lake Tagokura area, the train crosses the prefectural border at the long Rokujurikoshi Tunnel and descends the valley along the Hazama River, connecting with the Joetsu Line at Koide Station near the confluence of the Hazama River and the Uono River. Many of the villages along the line are mountain villages along the Tadami River, and the train windows along the entire line, including those in the Aizu Basin and Niigata Prefecture, are full of local scenery. The central part of the line, in particular, is part of the Echigo Sanzan Tadami Quasi-National Park and runs through unexplored areas, with some stations being called "unexplored areas.
Although the population along the line is small, the scenery along the line seen from the train windows is beautiful, and it is known for old houses with large roofs, the beauty of the valleys of the Hukuma and Tadami Rivers, and especially for its beautiful fresh green and autumn leaves, and can be crowded during the holiday season. In the past, it was selected as No. 1 in the "Top Ten Best Railway Lines with Beautiful Autumn Leaves" ranking, and in November 29, 2003, it was selected as No. 3 in the "Top Ten Best Local Lines with Beautiful Snowy Landscapes. Also recentlyRanked No. 1 in "Favorite JR Local Line Ranking (Eastern Japan)" in the May 2016 issue of "Travel and RailwaysThe company has been selected by the In addition to thisDaiichi Tadamigawa Bridge is one of the top 3 most famous bridges in JapanThe area has always been ranked in the top 10 in the world. These scenes along the line have been transmitted to foreign countries through SNS, and before the Corona disaster from 2020, there were many foreign tourists.
There are many hot springs along the line that are called "hidden hot springs," and JR East and local governments along the line are making efforts to promote the use of the line by tourists [3]. Except for Aizu-Wakamatsu and Koide Stations at both ends, there are no kiosks or other stores in the station facilities, but the "Kanayama-cho Tourist Information Center OASIS" in Aizu Kawaguchi Station, the intermediate station, sells food and beverages and souvenirs, and the "Tadami-cho Information Center" in front of Tadami Station offers mainly local souvenirs and provides tourist information, In addition, rental bicycles are also available. In addition, there is the Mishima Tourist Exchange Center "Karankoron" in front of Aizu Miyashita Station, which provides tourist information, a rest area, and rental bicycles. Emperor's Birthday (national holiday held from 1868 to 1948)

I'm impressed that the Hachiko Line has so many trains in operation when I'm taking pictures of the Tadami Line!

Emperor's Birthday (national holiday held from 1868 to 1948)

First, the 10:00 a.m. train to Koide. This is where Myu won the JR Tadami Line Grand Prize at the 20th Uonuma Photo Contest. However, the judge pointed out that the shadow of the building on the left was too strong in the afternoon shot. So I tried to take a backlit shot of the morning flight.
